"Disneyland Emporium" 3D Model

Brief

Create a 3D model of the Emporium store from the Disneyland Resort.

Solution

The Emporium glows on its familiar corner of Main Street USA, as it does every night for the countless guests that visit the Disneyland Resort. Nearly every detail is captured, from the outside brick layout to the storefronts and the marquee signage. These details allow the model conveys the warmth and coziness as the original.

Process

After modeling the building, I created materials for each object, reflecting the true materials of the actual Emporium. For example, you'll notice the glossy green paint on the lamp posts, or the shiny metal accents on the bunting. I also created lighting to match the atmosphere of Main Street USA. I utilized many styles of lights to create a warm glow that illuminates the building. I also added cool, blue and purple accent lighting to fill in the darker spots. Overall, the model, materials, and lighting were able to come together in a way I feel truly captures the same spirit as the Emporium at the Disneyland Resort.

Creating this model specifically was very special to me, as I actually worked at the Emporium at the Disneyland Resort. That being said, the building holds a special place in my heart, and I knew I needed to do it justice.

After the base was complete, I began adding in the countless details that make of the intricate exterior of the building. Visual references helped me understand and capture the amazing design details that went into the building.

I began modeling a base for the building. I used countless images from the internet to match the correct scale and proportions. Using these techniques, I was able to block out the vague shape of the building.
