Frightful Beasts Logo & Business Card

Brief

Design the logo for a local caviary and rabbitry business. The client specified an interest in the macabre, goth, and antique.

Solution

The logo was designed to play off the antique family portraits of the past. Specifically, it depicts a ferocious Guinea pig backed by a pair of stoic Elops, all emerging from the portrait, which can only mean trouble. A decorated frame that surrounds them references the antique, macabre design inspiration while grounding the logo against the background. The piece utilizes a subdued color scheme to reflect its dark nature and maintain a sophisticated appeal.

The business card utilizes a vertical format to compliment the vertical nature of the logo. It employs a few typographical stylings to organize the clients information as well as the company tagline.

Process

Because of the logos vertical format, I knew it would be best to use a vertical format for the business card. I created some sketches for those as well and ultimately decided on a simple design that allows the logo to speak for itself. The card features the logo prominently, supported by the client's information and the company's tagline.

After speaking with the client, I created numerous thumbnail sketches for the logo. These sketches explored various design styles, ranging from more abstract references to pictorial designs. Additionally, these incorporated some spelling and title exploration, as the client was still deciding on these factors. After completing these sketches, the client and I agreed upon one to further explore. I then created a high fidelity sketch of the chosen logo. After producing a digital version of the logo, I made some altercations per the clients requests, leading to the final logo.
